Boston-Area Consortium for Kant and 19th Century German Philosophy

Dear subscribers to the Boston-Area Consortium for Kant and 19^th-Century German Philosophy webpage,

I hope your semester is off to a good start! My name is Caroline Wall, and starting this semester, I’ll be the new Consortium Website Manager. Please feel free to send me any items (events, seminars, reading groups, etc.) you’d like me to post on the Consortium’s website and/or send around to those on the Consortium email list, and I’ll be happy to do so — you can reach me at cbwall [at] bu [dot] edu.

On the behalf of the Consortium, I would like to mention a few upcoming events, kindly hosted by members of our Consortium, that are related to Kant and 19^th-Century German philosophy. See the events page for further information — and please note that the events page is updated quite often, so checking there regularly is a great way to stay in the loop on Boston-area events!

• On Thursday, September 24, Boston College will host a lecture by Günter Zöller, titled “After Republics and Before Democracies: Kant’s Modern Polity” (flyer here). This will be followed by a seminar by Zöller on Friday, September 25, titled “Ex imperio libertas: The Course of Freedom in Hegel’s Speculative Geopolitics” (flyer here). Please contact Giampiero Basile (giampiero [dot] basile [at] bc [dot] edu) with any questions, and please register for the seminar through this spreadsheet.
• On November 6-7, the Society for German Idealism and Romanticism (SGIR) will hold their annual conference on Freedom and Ethics at Boston University. Further details are available at the event page here. Please contact organizers Allen Speight (casp8 [at] bu [dot] edu) and Gerad Gentry (gerad [dot] gentry [at] gmail [dot] com) with any questions.
• On Friday, December 11, the European Philosophy Workshop will take place at Harvard’s Center for European Studies. Further information about registration will be available later this fall.

Finally, I would like to flag that the Consortium has modest funds available to sponsor conferences, workshops, reading groups, and other events and activities related to Kant and 19^th-Century German philosophy.
